POE

Power Over Ethernet means a typical cctv system uses an NVR (network video recorder) images are sent from the cctv camera to the NVR for recording and playback. A DVR uses two cables on for power and one to send images to the DVR. With POE you only need one cable to carry both power and images. Generally POE systems use smart cameras with other features such as two way audio, sensors which detect human movement and can trigger alarms which send you an email notification of human activity in the camera's range. Cameras using POE can be wired up to around 100m. The NVR can compress images and video thus using less disk space an generally have much clearer images.

IP camera systems utilise wired internet protocol (IP) cameras to send video feeds to a network video recorder (NVR), which records and stores footage. These systems are more powerful and reliable than WiFi systems, many business and industrial applications use IP security camera systems. The IP cameras do the grunt work and send the information to your NVR, you can view footage from any smart phone, tablet or PC with internet connection.
